My journey in technology began in 1983, age 12, with an Atari 800XL, a modem, and a curiosity about how things worked.

What started as a fascination with computers quickly became a lifelong pursuit. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, I taught myself programming, built applications, operated bulletin board systems, and explored the emerging world of networking and security long before cybersecurity became a recognized industry.

More than forty years later, that same curiosity still drives me.

After serving in the United States Marine Corps, I entered the technology field professionally and eventually founded Black Bear MSSP in 2002. Since then, I've spent over two decades helping organizations protect their businesses, secure their data, and navigate an increasingly complex threat landscape.

Today, Black Bear MSSP is a cybersecurity-focused Managed Security Services Provider specializing in risk reduction, compliance, managed security, and practical defense strategies for small and midsize organizations.

Cybersecurity has always interested me because it requires understanding both sides of the equation. To defend a system, you must first understand how it can be attacked. Throughout my career, I've studied security from the perspective of both the defender and the ethical hacker, learning how attackers think so that we can better protect the organizations that trust us with their security.

That mindset influences everything we do.

We don't believe in fear-based marketing, endless buzzwords, or selling products for the sake of selling products. We believe in identifying risk, strengthening defenses, educating users, and helping our clients make smart security decisions that fit their business.

Technology will continue to evolve. Threats will continue to evolve. The fundamentals remain the same: understand the risks, prepare for them, and protect what matters.

For over twenty years, that's exactly what we've done.
